Did I Hear You Say...
"Who is John Galt?"

by Johnny Dollar

ATLAS_SHRUGGED_fs.jpgWho is John Galt? That’s the way the book starts out. He is an economic concept, a solution to government economic oppression, and a real person (in the novel, that is). He is the stealthy character that represents the basic premise of the book "Atlas Shrugged."

Anyone out there ever read "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand? Published in 1957, it is a compelling read about American business enterprise and entrepreneurial spirit being squashed by ultra-liberal, over-regulating federal government. The federal government seeks to take control of all business and wealth and redistribute goods and services to those who cooperate with the government. Those who oppose are first intimidated by government inspectors and ultimately forced to succumb via government regulations, fines, trials, and even imprisonment. As portrayed in the book, the federal government is vehemently anti-capitalist, and its goal is control of all forms of capitalist enterprise while eliminating the maverick entrepreneur and any activity seeking to make a profit via private enterprise.

Now that the presidential election is behind us, I have to wonder how the business environment will change. Assuming the majority of business owners and their employees are profit-motivated, what role should federal and state government play in promoting the general welfare of the nation? We are a capitalist system, right? And our economy is based on free enterprise, right? So it is reasonable to assume that our government would be working to promote business growth and lower unemployment, right?

Not too long ago I read an interesting article about how our federal Ggvernment’s various agencies (staffed by agenda-driven bureaucratic appointees) are working hard to create a business environment for your immediate future. But I’ll let you read the article and decide for yourself whether your duly elected (and appointed) federal government is using your tax dollars to promote a pro-business, pro-growth economic environment that will allow your business to grow and prosper.

As you plan for how your business will survive (and prosper?) in the immediate future, how do you think the outcome you read about in the attached article will impact your END-to-END SUPPLY CHAIN?

So, don’t be surprised if you start to hear whispered conversations between your fellow workers, asking the question, “Who Is John Galt?”
